How to use Cryptohopper Paper Trading accounts?

Paper trading allows you to run your Cryptohopper bot using virtual funds instead of real money. Your bot behaves exactly like a live bot, but no real trades are executed.

This is highly recommended when you are new, testing a new strategy, Signals, or making configuration changes. It helps you verify that everything works as expected—without risking capital.

Step 1: Enable Paper Trading

First, you need to enable paper trading on your bot.

Navigate to:

Bot configuration → Baseconfig → Exchange

Select a paper trading exchange. This exchange will mimic real market conditions from the exchange you choose (for example: Coinbase Advanced, Binance, etc.).

Step 2: Add funds to your Paper Trading account

Paper trading accounts do not have funds by default. You must manually add virtual funds before your bot can trade.

Go to the Paper Trading Accounts manager:

Deposit funds into paper trading account

In this example, we added $10,000 USD into a Coinbase Advanced paper trading account.

Important: if your paper trading account has no virtual funds, your bot will not place any trades.

Step 3: Choose your quote currency

Just like live trading, paper trading requires a quote currency.

Navigate to:

Bot configuration → Baseconfig → Coins and amounts

Select the same quote currency you added funds for (for example: USD, USDT, or USDC).

If your paper trading account holds USD, your bot must trade USD pairs. If the quote currency does not match your available virtual funds, trades will not execute.

Why Paper Trading is recommended

  • Test strategies and Signals without risking real money
  • Verify your exchange connection and configuration
  • Understand bot behavior before going live
  • Safely experiment with different quote currencies and pairs

When to switch to live trading

Once your paper trading bot behaves as expected and you are comfortable with the results, you can switch to a live exchange and fund your real account.

Tip: many experienced users still return to paper trading when testing new strategies or major changes.
